Former Feehan standout Monique LeBlanc named Brown coach


Monique LeBlanc, a former Bishop Feehan High basketball standout, was named the new women's basketball coach at Brown University on Friday.

LeBlanc, a Cumberland, R.I., native, was selected to The Sun Chronicle's all-star team in 1997 and 1998 and finished with 839 career points at Bishop Feehan, having played under coaches Ed Gagnon and Art Anderson.

She played her collegiate ball at Bucknell University and then coached at Bucknell and Northern Arizona before taking over the Merrimack College program in 2011.

Last season, Merrimack's first in NCAA Division I play, LeBlanc guided the Warriors to a 20-9 record. She holds the Merrimack women's program in career victories with 129.

LeBlanc succeeds former Foxboro High and Boston College standout Sarah Behn, who held the position for six years.
